The Yankees decided to be extra annoying this season and make not one version, but 8 different covers to the pocket schedules. I didn't see the C.C. Sabathia or Jorge Posada ones. Naturally, I had to have all 6 that they had out and had to take extras, you know... just in case someone else needed one...
Here is what they look like on the covers:
When I left the game on Friday night, I had a decent stack of these in my pocket. One set for me, one set for my buddy Flash, and a spare in case one set flew away, caught fire, was dropped in a puddle, lost or any other reason to steal free things from the Yankees.
Next game I will have to take some Jorge and Sabathia ones. I like stuff.
I also take one of these from every stadium I visit, and put them into a box of stuff to never be looked at again. It's like a free souvenir.
Anyone else do this? I really need someone to say yes here... *Crickets*
I too am a hoarder of pocket schedules. In fact I was going to make a post soon to see if anyone wanted to trade. But I'd only be looking for Angels or Rangers in return.

ReplyDeleteHey Adam. I know this is probably pretty late. It's been five years, but I have a suggestion. What I do is just send an email to the fan feedback address for the Sox and they send me a pocket schedule every year. Happy Collecting!
DeleteLet's be honest Marie the whole hobby of collecting sports cards is a study in collecting useless things. I mean what good are baseball cards? You can't eat them, they don't change the oil in your car and they won't walk your dog. But for some reason I too love a good pocket schedule. And with 8 to choose from with 8 different players on them they are as collectable and as useful as any other baseball card, unless you factor worth into the picture and then well that's a whole other discussion.
ReplyDeleteDon't feel too bad, there are several people in my online trading group that collect these, but not the major league ones like yours, they're into the minor league ones!
ReplyDeleteLiving in a town with a team, I like to contribute to them, adding in some from the teams near my friends in other states and relatives in team towns elsewhere in my state.
I have a ton of old schedules as well, and I always see them and think about getting rid of them, but then in the back of my mind, I think that maybe that Chicago Cubs pocket schedule from the year that they hosted the All-Star Game may have some incredible value! So, I keep hoarding them...

I have a collection of pocket schedules too! But I just started in the last few years. I have always collected the Indians, my favorite team, but now I am on the lookout for other teams. I have gotten quite a few in the mail from the teams themselves. However, the Yankees are one team that has not sent one yet. Is there any way I could have you pick up a CC one for me? ReplyDeleteI think I've got at least one Mets schedule per year going back into the early 80s. I also try to pick one (or more) up when I go to different stadiums, and some of my friends know me well enough to grab a pocket schedule for me if they go to any games while they're traveling.

I too have a minor collection of team schedules, from whenever I manage to pick them up. I try to get one every time I go to a new ballpark and in fact I have two Rancho Quakes schedules in my pocket right now.
ReplyDeleteI too, collect pocket schedules. All teams, all sports. I save these along with the programs, ticket stubs, beer cup, and/or anything else that has the team logo on them from every sporting event I attend. The stubs and schedules I stick into 9 pocket sheets just like the cards, and have an entire album devoted to such. Some of mine go back to the 1950's and are worth some money. More importantly, they are worth the memories of that day. Hope this helps you feel better! LOL

Pocket skeds rule. I keep at least one clean, and one marked up w/ my attendance and W/L record for games I attend. This goes back about a decade, but like you I haven't looked at 'em in awhile. My focus is the A's and Stockton Ports. I've priced Japanese skeds but they're prohibitive ($10 plus exorbitant shipping).
As usual we A's fans get stiffed- ONE design this year...liquor store? Trevor Cahill. Box office? Trevor Cahill. Fan services? Cahill. It has dwindled steadily down to this sad state of affairs.
I gave the kid I offload my dupe cards on his 1st pocket schedule at the game Sunday- he spent 20 minutes studying it.
That kid has a future ahead of him.

I'll grab them for trade bait, especially since they are my favorite price. But for the most part, I am trying to "de-clutter". I won't even take any more free stuff from wherever I go, (pens, pads, etc.) Trying out this new mindset. So far, so good. Just got back from a week in Williamsburg VA. didn't bring home any freebies.

ReplyDeleteWe have three major get-togethers every year: Harrisburg, PA (April), Detroit (August) and Winchester, VA (October). Great people and I love the fact that the hobby hasn't been hit by the Beckett mentality of "how much is it worth?"
Funny; that very question is what led me to this discussion. I just inherited a plastic grocery bag filled with L.A. Dodgers schedules from 1962 to 1992 or so. They're mostly protected by plastic, in good shape ... but I'm a Padres fan! Are you all saying there is no value in these and that my friend paid for a collection worth nothing but memories?
ReplyDeleteFunny; it was that very question that led me to this site. I inherited a big bag of L.A. Dodgers schedules from 1963 onward -- mostly in great shape. Guess there's no monetary value, huh? The worst part, is that I'm a Padres fan, not Dodgers. :)
