I thought it would be interesting to start a new post, which will come every Sunday. This way, we get to learn a little bit about each other in the process and have a little fun at the same time. I'm going to try and make all of the posts related to trading cards in some form, but occasionally, we may change it up a bit.
Here's the first question:
If you could purchase one product from 2009, what would it be?
You don't need to have one word answers. I'm curious if some people are waiting to see products live because I know Goodwin Champions will be high on every one's list.
So let me know, I think this good be fun.
For now, Allen & Ginter gets the nod for me. There's enough different sets, inserts, etc in it that if I could only buy packs of one set this would be the one that I would be least bored by pack after pack.
ReplyDeleteTopps base set and update. I don't really chase any of the other stuff (refractors, chrome, game-used, autographs). I just like the basic baseball cards. Even when I was on my sabbatical from collecting (about 1994-2007), I made sure to buy a Topps set every year. Except for a few holes here and there, I have every regular Topps set since 1974.
ReplyDeleteTopps Heritage would be a close second. I really like the 1960 design. One of these days I'll finish that 1960 set that I've been working on since 1980.
Allen & Ginter would keep me entertained for the entire year, possibly longer.
ReplyDeleteI can't say the same for other sets, even ones I like. My interest in collecting them fades after a few months.
Anything that is a "retro" set, Goudey, Ginter ect... I'm a big fan of the old looking cards.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... just one? Considering I've only purchased a couple packs of ANYTHING 2009, I'll say base Topps. There's enough variety with the inserts along with the occasional hit to keep it interesting, plus the most inclusive base set.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to contemplate that question without seeing what the rest of the year brings. I've probably bought more packs of Topps Heritage than anything else, so I'll go with that until I see what Goodwin looks like up close.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to complete the 2008 Topps Heritage set, so it's hard to focus on which 2009 product interests me the most.
I've got a better question. Whic 2009 product do I wish I could return to its original pack, reseal it, return it, and get a refund? 2009 UD Icons.
ReplyDeleteClearly, I do not need to answer this question because I am very entertained by the simplicity of OPC, and I love Goudey and Heritage as well. I would probably go with one of those for now, but Goodwin may win in the end.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ topher, I think both Sooz and myself would agree. I picked up the 2 cards I wanted from that set on eBay after wasting $20 on a blaster that had no Albert.

A&G beats Heritage by a nose. The base set is easier to put together and there are more insert sets to chase once you've done that. Plus: I dig the mini cards.

ReplyDeleteI've really opened enough of Topps and Heritage to make a good judgment, and it's probably a toss up between those two. The Heritage base set is nicer, but I like the Topps inserts better.

ReplyDeleteI agree with White Sox Cards in that it's hard to say at this point.I lean toward the retro sets, A&G,Goudey and Heritage.If I had to pick one,probably Heritage.I was 9 years old in 1960 and remember buying those cards.
ReplyDeleteI love the retro stuff so Allen & Ginter would be first on the baseball side of things. I really like the look of Topps Magic for football. Plus all those college unis look great. I am not an SMU fan but I did like those Mustang unis with Dickerson and James.
ReplyDeleteI'd go with base Topps at this point. Great photography, great price point, collectible enough insert sets that aren't beyond the moderate collector, no insanely annoying insert sets. Just a fine product all around.

Allen & Ginter without a doubt. It may be a little high end on my collecting bill, but I think it has the best chances at fun while breaking (foB and has a good chance at getting quite a few cards for your favorite team. We'll have to see how Goodwin is though. I can't tell, you know how products typically show amazing cards in their preview. I think that all made sense.
ReplyDeleteI'm an O-Pee-Chee fan this year. With a 600 card base set and some extras it is enough to keep me busy, especially since there are only 6 in a pack. I have bought 7 boxes so far and still have not completed my Yankee set (an Edwar Ramirez away) let alone the entire set. Plus, the cards are great to send out for TMM autos which I am doing with my doubles.
ReplyDeleteI do like the 09 A&G but been there done that, OPC is new and different. I am a also a fan of Heritage.
I would and am buying 2009 Topps. From 06 to 08, I was really disappointed with it. I bought it anyway cuz its cheap and its Topps, but the 2009 set has great photography for a change. A nice design, too. Both A and G and Heritage are awesome! But the collation is horrible and you can spend a ton of money putting together a set buying wax.

Very colorful, and entertaining.
Autographs of minor league stars, as well as legends in their minor league uniforms.
They kind of remind me of an opiated dream I once had.

Minor league team sets. I enjoy the mascots, the interesting team logos, the varied quality of photography and card designs & the interesting names that seem to pop up.
ReplyDeleteBest of all, the purchase price guarantees a complete set so there's no frustrating search for the last card.

I always look forward to SP Authentic. But I'm usually disappointed with the lame shortprints and gimmicked autos.
