eBay and Baseball Cards

Sooo..... It's been a week, and we have made some sales. Slow and steady from the land of cardboard. We have some great cards for sale and auction, and we keep buying things. I swear it's all for "inventory" and not for my albums. In my defense, I have bought a ton of Topps Chrome (and by a ton I mean a Hobby Box and a Blaster, and some random packs) and they are pretty much all for sale. I did get a Pujols in my Hobby Box which made me happy, though there was only 1 Yankee, Joba Chamberlain.

If anyone is looking for something specific let us know. Check out our current, and constantly growing inventory as well. eBay store ID: Card Bandits!

Topps Red Hot Rookies

Topps has red hot rookies in their Series 2 product this year. This way you can get all the best of the top rookies in the league. Some are going to be better than other. So far, Topps has announced four of the 20 Red Hot Rookies.

Here are the cards so far:

1. Jay Bruce Auto (probably going to be the best card in the set)
2. Justin Masterson (pictured)
3. John Bowker
4. Kosuke Fukudome

2008 SP Legendary Cuts Box Break

I don't have any scans, but I will tell you what I got.

NOTHING!

Just kidding. It was a decent box, nothing great. One card pretty much saved the whole thing, but I won't tell you yet.

I got plenty of base cards, six YSL, which all went to Coverered in Wrappers, a Greg Maddux GU jersey, Hanley Ramirez GU jersey, a Bobby Doeer (Boston Red Sox) bat card numbered to /35 and ....

A Derek Jeter/Reggie Jackson dual jersey Generations card. I am going for all of the Jeter dual jersey cards in the set and I have only seen one of these on eBay, so it made me happy to pull it. Granted it wasn't worth the price of the box, but I am happy nevertheless.

2008 All-Star Fanfest Topps Exclusive

I found this article today on Beckett, and it made me happy.

This year, be sure to look for Topps at the MLB All-Star FanFest, in New York, July 11–15.

Topps encourages this year's MLB All-Star FanFest attendees to stop by the Topps booth for free sample cards, Pack Wars, prizes and a whole lot of fun. Topps is also offering several commemorative cards and sets, and a unique wrapper redemption program. Fans and collectors opening three packs of 2008 Topps or Bowman brand baseball cards at the Topps booth will receive an exclusive FanFest Topps card.

There will be eight different cards available during FanFest featuring some of New York's most popular players, both past and present.

Some of the Yankees players included will be Alex Rodriguez, Joba Chamberlain, Lou Gehrig and Mickey Mantle. The Mets players will include David Wright and Johan Santana. In addition, the Brooklyn Dodgers' Jackie Robinson will be featured on a card.

Topps is also offering a special 2008 All-Star Package Topps Baseball Complete Set.

Fans and collectors can stop by the Topps booth and purchase the unique 2008 Topps Baseball complete set that features a commemorative 2008 All-Star box and includes five exclusive "Yankees Legends" cards.

Fans who purchase this set at the 2008 FanFest will receive an additional five-card "Yankees Legends" set, produced exclusively for FanFest, including Rodriguez, Chamberlain, Chien-Ming Wang, Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada.

They don't have to tell me twice to stop by. I hate money so I'll be there.

2008 Topps Series 2 Box Break

About a week ago I was wandering through the mall, wondering what I should waste some money on. I walked into BC Sports, and found out that a Topps Series 2 hobby box would only cost me $58 bucks. Bargain! And by bargain, I mean the only box that was in the $50 range I was willing to spend that day.

I will give Topps a little credit on the Series 2 because they included a mystery redemption card in the hobby boxes, as well as a game used card. I was so furious with getting a boxload of crap in Series 1, I'm not sure why I decided to buy this box but then again I hate money.

I got a Jose Reyes 2007 Season Highlights Game Used Jersey card, Red Hot Rookie Redemption #14, 2 Mickey Mantle cards, about 8 Gold cards, and quite a number of gold foil. I also got the usual inserts that are not very exciting, like the presidential ones, Topps Stars, and a couple of Trading Card History.

Overall, for $58 bucks you really can't go wrong with Series 2.

I think I Really Do Have A Problem

I was scouring the Beckett message board and came across the official Derek Jeter thread and was instantly annoyed because I can't afford to go out and get these great cards. As I looked through the thread, I was getting more and more jealous (yeah, that's the right word). Then, I see someone pulled a Jeter/Chamberlain dual jersey card /99 out of a Spectrum blaster.

At that moment, I got up, went to KMart and bought a UD Series 2 blaster. I ended up with an Ultra Rare ARod starquest and a Melky Cabrera GU jersey. Not bad, but then I realized if insead of getting all of these blasters, I could have bought the card I wanted and saved my money. I could add to my Jeter collection and make it great instead of hoping to get a steal.

Hopefully, I learn my lesson one day.

2008 Upper Deck Goudey Preview

Here is a copy of the preview article printed and run on Beckett.com:

UD Previews 2008 Goudey Sport Royalty Autos
Jun 9 2008 3:48PM

Upper Deck created a monster last season with the debut of the Sport Royalty Autographs set within 2007 Goudey.

To no surprise, the company is bringing the landmark set back again in 2008 with $4.99 eight-card packs set to release in mid July.

Once again this season, the Sport Royalty Autographs will be on-card. Unlike last season, they'll be found in-pack, as opposed to last year's box-toppers, and will be seeded at two to three per case instead of the previously announced one per case.

Until mid July, this sneak peek will have to do:

Another sneak peek for all you loyal readers.... We have pre-ordered a case of the 2008 Upper Deck Goudey and are eagerly awaiting breaking it and posting the results.

The Wonder That Is Target

Most people go to Target to get Blasters or new retail packs, I go to Target looking for the bargain packs. Those are the packs that are a year or more old, sitting in a box on the bottom shelf somewhere. A few days ago I grabbed 10 2007 UD Goudey packs, and 10 2006 Topps Heritage packs. In the Goudey, I got Nolan Ryan and Cal Ripken Jr. Heads Up cards, and an Ichiro, Smoltz, Pedro Martinez, and someone else I can't remember Short Prints. In the Heritage, I pulled a Barry Zito Pieces of Greatness Jersey Card, Signs of Greatness Kevin Whelan auto, and a Signs of Greatness redemption card for John Drennan (?). The redemption is good til December, and I am hoping they send me someone else because they ran out of that guy.

Since I am good at wasting money, I went back to Target because there were 10 packs of 2007 Topps Heritage left and I bought those. This was fun also, I got a couple of SP's I didn't have, one rainbow foil SP, and a Pieces of Greatness Jeff Franceour bat card.

Not bad for $1.59 per pack. The first trip cost $17 bucks, and I got far more than you get in most blasters.

I have some scans, I have to put them into a webpage to put them in here. Will be up later tonight, hopefully.

2008 Bowman Jumbo Box Break

Well, I gave in. Frankly, the only box that could make me do it is the Bowman. So, I opted for the Jumbo. Here are the highlights:

The best card was a Gerardo Parra Gold Chrome Refractor # 46/50. I also got a refractor of his /599.

Easily the dumbest cards were the scout cards. I don't really care about these guys. Cool jobs, they have found excellent players. However, there is a reason there are baseball cards of players and not scouts. No one cares. This mystery Bowman Scout one is even dumber.

The Signs of the Future card was Astros' prospect Mitch Einerstson.

I also received two Chrome refractors and an xfractor of no one special. I got many of the base cards, but no Jeter. I know it always works out that way. However, it's cool because I bought a Jeter base card off Beckett earlier in a lot of cards. I suspected I wouldn't get his card anyway.

A Cardboard Reprieve

I've been doing well with collections. I've added a few Kouzmanoff cards and my collection is up to 110 cards now. And, I'm approaching a milestone. I have 938 Jeter cards. 1,000 is so close.

However, yesterday I needed a little break from those cards and I went and bought an Upper Deck Series 2 blaster. I actually enjoyed this one, which means I can't buy anymore because I know I will be disappointed.

I didn't get a single Yankee base card, however, I did two Jeter starquests, a common and uncommon, as well as a Jeter hit brigade insert. That was fun. The jersey card was Ray Durham, whom I have already forgotten about. I got two YSLs (Pettitte, Clemens), which will be going to Covered in Wrappers. She needs them more than I do. I just want to get all the Jeter YSL. It's not looking too good right now. I have two of the 50ish.
