What Marie bought at the National

I decided to break this up into two posts, one with my singles and one with the (bad) wax or I may not even show the breaks unless they are requested. As I mentioned in a previous post, I had stopped down in Tom's River to meet up with Flash and went to the Backstop. I ended up picking up a few cards there before I even left for the National. Yeah, I have issues.

Here are the cards picked up at the Backstop:

2008 Sweet Spot Triple Relic

2010 Topps Tribute Mariano Rivera Relic

Well Played Mauer

While at the National I picked up a nice amount of singles, including some SP's and inserts I needed for my PC as well as some Yankees. I didn't scan all those because you would probably be bored, but one of the more interesting cards I found for a buck was a 2006 Topps Chrome Mariano Rivera black refractor /549.

Here are the assortment of game used and auto's I found by rummaging through the bargain bins. Bargain bins are my favorite.

This card was given to me by Rob from Voice of the Collector. That's how he lured me onto the radio show...

2003 Donruss Studio Albert Pujols GU

2007 Topps Heritage Robinson Cano GU

2006 Topps Allen & Ginter Robinson Cano GU

2007 Bowman Sterling Robinson Cano GU

2007 Fleer Ultra Robinson Cano GU

2008 Baseball Heroes Phil Hughes GU

2007 UD Future Stars Adam Lind Auto

2005 Donruss Signature Series Wade Boggs GU

2003 Topps Finest Wade Boggs GU

2005 Legendary Cuts Wade Boggs GU (with noticable dirt)

2006 Artifacts Nick Swisher Auto

While I don't collect Nick Swisher, I figured for $5.00 I could trade it or make a Yankees fan happy with a surprise if I don't keep it.

Wade Boggs is one of my favorite players of all time. As a kid he was one of the guys I always wanted to be like since I played third base. He was also very superstitious, which many people might not know. If he had a bad game, he drove a different way to the stadium the next day. He ate the same thing before every single game, and had to walk out onto the field at the same time every game. Crazy, but it sounds like something I would do. There were a bunch of Boggs auto's there, but I feel like if I start that as another player collection it will just end in a failure because I have enough going on. The only bright side to that is that there would be no new cards to chase.

Well, maybe I bought one other card of significance. This card was a decent pick up....

1983 Topps Wade Boggs RC
I'm sure I have Boggs cards floating around here that could eventually make themselves into a nice little collection, but I will stick with my current projects for now. There are some Boggs cards in my retired binder, but not many. I need help.

  3. That's a nice looking triple relic...gotta love when the jerseys match the picture. I bought alot of 08 sweet spot (Wal-Mart randomly had a few hobby boxes of it for cheap) and picked up a couple Jeter GU, as well as a Cano/Bryan Roberts Dual Patch #ed to 25.

  4. sru - I found one Cano auto ball, the guy wanted $100. I figured for $100 I could get a World Series ball on eBay. COA's from there or eBay were still not Steiner, so it really makes no difference as long as it has Cano's authenticity sticker that he signed it.
