Sometimes I wonder why...

Did you ever look at your PC and wonder why you collect a certain player? Every time I look for something on eBay lately, I promise you it's never Adam Lind. It's not so much that I'm over collecting him (though I might be), but that the remaining cards I want of him are stupidly overpriced.

My buddy Dan from the card shop somehow ended up with two of Lind's 2010 Topps Updates & Highlights auto's and left one for me at the shop. I think he sympathizes with my stupidity in continuing this collection, and that is definitely because he also collects Lind. I bet if I asked him why he continues to do so, I'd be entertained by the answer at the very least.


I love the card, and the fact that I have super cool friends who like giving me presents because I'm super awesome.

So now I will share a few cards here that I really want, but for like 1/10th of the price. Honestly, I would LOVE to know how sellers can list Adam Lind autographs for more than $5.00 simply based on his performance last season (or lack thereof).

Earlier this week I went on a little binge on eBay. I picked up a couple of single cards I really liked to save myself from buying a box of something I can't afford and really won't want once I open it. I decided to put in an offer on a 2010 Topps Triple Threads Adam Lind auto, and I won it. Great. Today I get my mail and there it was, within days I got my card. That made me happy, until I opened it.




Now, I can't get mad because the card isn't damaged and was wrapped in bubble wrap however, the card is missing on essential element. Look closely... Click to zoom in... That's right, no top loader. Not even a penny sleeve. Just thrown in a team bag. Sigh. I know Lind isn't all that good, but he deserves a toploader.

Trip to the Card Shop

After my workout yesterday I went over to the Baseball Card Shop because Dave had sent me an e-mail that he had a 2010 Ginter mini black Lind for me. Yay =)

I ended up meeting a couple of young kids with their dad, and they were buying baseball cards! Bless that guy for teaching them to collect baseball cards and getting them started just like my parents did for me. Mike gave them our site address so hopefully they will stop by from time to time to read my goofy ramblings. Even though they were Mets fans, they were cool cats.

Then some familiar dude walks in and starts talking and I knew I had talked to this guy before. He looks at me and goes, "You used to work at BC Sports, right?" I said yeah, and he was like, "How did you like the Pujols shadow picture auto you were ordering?" Then it all came back to me. He used to rip a lot of high end packs in the store, always threw me the Yankees, and also told me when I was trying to decide on a Pujols autographed picture which one was cool. So that was what I ended up buying.

Long story short on Joe, he decided to open some Ginter from a fresh box so I waited to see what he pulled because he had ridiculous luck. Mike (the owner) gave me the box topper. I opened it and was very pleased.



Joe picked his packs, and then I grabbed 3 because I had to play, too. Plus, I need wrappers (yes, that is my excuse). First pack I opened, I pulled this card.



I'm a big fan of the Hebrew Hammeri, so this was awesome. Nothing in the other two packs except a Vlad mini and a Reimold mini. I left some of the base cards at the shop because I didn't want them and maybe someone can use them to complete a set. Joe opened his packs and wanted nothing so I went through them and found this:

Love it! Ginter mini black Alex Gordon. As I said a few weeks ago, I'm a fan of Gordon despite his lackluster performance in the majors. I think he'll come around once he gets accustomed to the outfield.

I also took all the This Day in History cards because I think I may have 1/2 or 3/4 of that set and it might be fun to complete (read: she will get bored and not bother).

I also opened a pack of 1993 Upper Deck for the hell of it. Any mojo? Yep. John Kruk.

I'm please with my eBay bargains, and it's nice to pick up a new Pujols card since I haven't really bought any new Pujols cards recently. I've been working on filling in the Lind collection while he's on a slide.

So, I was on eBay as usual browsing around for nothing in particular with my eBay bucks certificate and came across an Adam Lind card I have wanted for a while but was just waiting for the price to be reasonable. Once he got hot last year, it seems like no one has bothered to check on his current batting average which is hovering around .210-ish. I picked up the card for less than $6.

I figured since I was already buying something from the seller and he had a store, why not see what else he can jam in the bubble mailer? The other card I got was in the same boat, just waiting for a good price. This one was less than $5.

2006 Future Stars Russell Martin RC
What I didn't notice about the Russ Martin card was that he is clear when you have the card in hand. From being scanned you can't tell, so that was a cool surprise. The card itself is also kind of made of plastic. I have the Adam Lind version of the Clear Path to Greatness, but I don't remember it being clear or plastic feeling....

So those are the latest cards to arrive for the PC. Sooner or later I will get the 2004 SP Adam Lind /400. I've been wanting to pick that up for a while now, and I am hoping no one else bids on that one (unless they are sending it to me).

New PC additions

Over the last week or so a bunch of recently acquired cards have come floating into my mailbox which always makes getting the mail more fun. While I love opening packs, sometimes getting exactly what you want in the mail is better.

I don't have any patience, so the minute these hit eBay I was all over them.

Considering how much more cost effective it is to just buy the cards of the guys I like would be, you would think that I would just do that. No one ever said I was the brightest bulb in the box. I also might be allergic to money since I trade most of it for cardboard.

Card shop loot

Yesterday when I stopped at the shop, I learned that they had a couple of cards put aside for me in case I needed them. There were a bunch of Lind auto's (which I had all but one), and some Cano parallels. There is one Cano parallel I may go back for once I check my list because I couldn't remember if I had it or not. The other was obvious that I wouldn't have had it laying around.

Card #1 - While I don't see myself finishing the entire team name or just "Jays", these look way too nice to turn down. Probably one of my favorite auto sets of Lind (who I wish was swinging the bat better).



Card #2 - A gold refractor of Robbie Cano, don't ya know?! Why yes, I will take that. Nothing like a new "shiny" card to add to my binder.



I have a couple more cards that I have picked up here and there recently to post about later on. It has been nice to get a card or two in the mail that I really want as opposed to opening packs of Bowman for a card I'm never getting.

Speaking of which, has anyone pulled any Pujols/Cano/Lind A&G mini's yet? I am also looking for a Lind base card.

eBay winnings

Disclaimer: This blog (for once) contains no Bowman cards, packs, or blasters.

Instead of Bowman, I thought I would get back to what I like most in collecting- my PC. Despite the fact that I love Robbie Cano, this monster MVP-type season (.371 BA, 12 HR, 46 RBI) he is having is creating a bit of a frenzy over his cards. Not that I don't want him to do well, but more people to fight with that are just jumping on the bandwagon now.

Cano had an auto from 2010 Topps Series 1 and is popular enough to have an auto in 2010 Topps Series 2 as well. His auto is also a Group A this time which I thought was awesome and kind of a bummer because that immediately adds value to the card as a result of it not being in every box.


Unfortunately, Adam Lind is not have anywhere near the season Cano is having. He is currently hitting a disappointing .209 and his cards have sunk like a rock. Bonus of this, super cheap Cap Logo card /99 on eBay. I'm hoping that Lind can turn his season around after the All-Star break, maybe some days off to regroup will get him back to his form from last season.



The Cano Cap Logo card may be the next card I go after, but it would probably half to be for half the price. I can't really see myself spending much more on a fake patch card.

It is nice to think about my PC again and work on stuff that has to do with that... and not chase the golden ticket. I have not been to Target in 24 whole hours.

I robbed one of our readers

The other day at the card shop my friend Dan brought his Adam Lind collection with him for me to check out. I'll admit it was almost like flipping through my own with the exception of 10 or so cards. What can I say, we have good taste.

Dan had doubles of 3 cards that I needed, and he let me take them for cards to be named later. Hooray! It made my trip even more fun. Oh.... what's that? You want to see what I looted from Dan's PC? Ok, ok settle down folks.

I have been trying to get my mitts on one of these cards for-ev-er. Yay!

This was fun because the card looks like it has a watch on the side, at least to me it does.

Dan collects some Mets (not all, he hates some of them as much as I do), Jay Bruce, David Wright, Adam Lind, Scott Rolen, and Sox prospect Anthony Rizzo (there may be more but I don't remember). If you have anything you want to flip of those guys, please let me know (specifically 2010 Heritage Jay Bruce auto).

3 pack break of Bowman Jumbo

I got a message from my friend Dan saying he was heading over to the card shop if I was around yesterday, so I went over to meet him. While I was waiting for him, I got antsy and started debating what I wanted to open. I was messaging with Flash on gmail trying to make a decision, and I saw there was only one pack missing from a Bowman Jumbo box and decided to go for it.

I picked the upper left stack, middle pack on a hunch. I feel like buying these packs is the same feeling the children got in Willy Wonka when looking for the golden ticket. I had to open the wrapper slowly, like Charlie Bucket, then carefully look inside and pray. I got a ticket, it just wasn't a golden Strasburg ticket.

Well, despite the fact that the dude is a Red Sox player, it works well for eBay flippage.

Oh, I was excited to have picked a pack with an auto. So excited in fact, that I decided I deserved another pack. Why not? The box was only missing one pack. Pack two was just as fun, and was picked upper right middle pack.

While the pack was not an auto, I pulled two cool cards but only one of which made me happy to have picked that pack.

I bought a Cano gold on eBay before finding out Suzy pulled one (forgot that I even bought it), and then pulled one. Wonderful.


So my friend Dan opened a box of Bowman, and we learned at that point that Dave (the owner) had opened the one pack of Jumbo's that I didn't and there was nothing in the pack. So Dan, who has a cardboard problem as well, opened the rest of the box and pulled 2 autos and a Futures relic of Luis Durango. I can't remember which autos he got.

Being the nice guy Dan is, he gave me a whole mess of cards that I needed for my collections. Here is what I snarfed (base cards not included):



Not a bad day, right? I have another post coming up about the I.O.U.'s I gave Dan for some other cards. That being said, I am now campaigning to trade for a Jay Bruce auto, or Mets autos for pay Dan back. You'll see what I mean a little later.

P.S. I also learned how to add today. Dave is a good teacher.
