Sunday question: What player do you love to hate?

No matter what a player does, you're just going to dislike them. You're going to root against them even when you know they are good. Yeah, I'm talking about the Jeter haters, which clearly showed up this week.

But we all have them. There are certain players that no matter what team they play on or what they do, you just root against them.

Who are they ?

Sooz: David Eckstein, Jonathan Papelbon and Dustin Pedroia. I'm sure there are more, but I'll start there.

  1. Oh, ya struck a nerve here, cuz I have a bunch!
We can start (in no particular order) with Manny and A-Rod and move onto Papi, Pedroia, Crapplebon, Yuke, Teix, Francouer... Maybe they are the big ones. I swear I hate on more obscure players, too. Used to be Coco Crisp, now I just feel sorry for him...

  2. I'm sure there are a bunch that ug me. Just can't think of them. Too lazy to list the entire Yankee roster. :)

I'm with you on Eckstein. Can understand Papelbon. Pedroia?

  3. Scrappy David Eckstein, Former football player Darrin Erstad, and Derek "Calm Eyes" Jeter.

Sorry, i know he is your favorite, but after faithfully reading Fire Joe Morgan, I cant hate him any more than I already do.

  4. The players that have frustrated me the most as a Braves fan were Jeff Francouer and, oh my God, Greg Norton. The Braves have insisted on pinch-hitting with Greg Norton for the entire year. He hits well below .200, has no power, can't really play defense at all, and worse yet, if he manages to get on base, sometimes they pinch run for him! He draws walks every now and then, and that's all he's worth, except for he doesn't start the free agent clock on a young replacement player.

  5. I will say that most of my "hate" guys are guys the media tries to shove down my throat. Eckstein on deck. Posada's patience at the plat. Ichiro could hit home runs if he wanted to. Jeter knows how to win. Makes me want to gag. But, I sure Ichiro and Eckstein are fine people...probably not worthy of hate.

  6. This is easy, because I just did a similar post.

A-Rod, easily. Who can root for that guy?

Teixeira. I don't think he has a soul.

I thought about listing players from other teams, but really everyone else pales in comparison to the Yankees. They're not even close to how much I hate them.

Jeter doesn't bug me. The praise NYC media heaps on him bugs me, but can't blame him for that.

  7. I think the next question here is did you all hate A-Rod/Teixeira prior to them signing with the Yankees or you just hate them because of the uniform?

I hate Eckstein, Papelbon, YOUKALIS (douche), Pedroia, Craig Counsel, Matsui (lol, I have to keep hating on him because he's hitting well), there are more but I'll see if they come back to my brain.

  8. Alex Rodriguez
    Roger Clemens
    Manny Ramirez
Barry Bonds (even though he was a Giant)
    Gary Sheffield

  11. Manny Ramirez for one. I never liked the guy, and as soon as he became a Dodger, he got a lot easier to hate.

Barry Bonds. Though too, I am a Giants fan. I remember heckling Barry Bonds from the left field bleachers for wearing a corset. It looked like had one on when he took a playable ball short on a one-hopper that let two runs score to lose the game in SF. I savor that moment--he actually looked back into our stands with a glum look. I got a few glares for claiming that Bonds is not God in his own church pews, but really, what are San Franciscans going to do to me? I go to games in Oakland, too, and they wouldn't last a second out there without their wine glass.

Joba Chamberlain. The guy is an overrated toad. No class. Richard Chamberlain could beat him up.

Old school? Rusty Staub. That guy was a prick. I was 11 and politely asked for his autograph during batting practice while he was gabbing with Mookie Wilson, and he gave me the finger, no joke. What a bag.

  12. I don't hate any players except one player Manny Ramirez. Nothing personal but because he plays for the Dodgers and I'm a Padres.

  13. I don't know how anybody would hate Eckstein

  14. Vicente Padilla. It's one thing to retaliate within the unwritten rules, but it's quite another to use that as a go to pitch.

I don't want to hate any player, but Padilla forces my hand.

  15. Manny Ramirez, hands down. This guy has no respect for the game. Talking on a cell phone in the Green Monster, taking PED's, testing positive, slacking off to show his team up, taking a day off against a hard throwing pitcher, being an overall jerk and a**. He embodies everything that I hate in a player. Add on the fact that ESPN is in love with the guy and media had to give us updates on his every move a la Brett Favre, when he was out for PED's. Manny sucks!

  16. Keep hating Jeter everyone. Hate him right into the HOF.

  17. I also hate Manny for reasons that were mentioned by Chris. I agree with your points.

  18. I hate Pedroia cause he's a hobbit

  19. Anybody on the Yankees, but the top two are Arod and Joba Chamberlain.

  20. Just about anyone who plays the only teams in baseball that exist, according to ESPN (Boston, NYY, Philadelphia, Chicago, STL).

Extra-special YOU SUCK goes to these fine folks: Jeter, Chamberlain, Papelbon, Beckett, Hamels, Utley, Victorino, DeRosa.

And then there's David Eckstein. Words can't describe how much I dislike this guy.

  21. Ironically, I really like Alex Rodriguez. In fact, if I were a GM, I'd take Alex on my team any day.

Of course, it helps that the ESPN media cartel has turned on him, and is clearly reporting on his exploits because he's still a Yankee. If he played for, heaven forbid, a west coast team, we all know he'd get the Manny treatment.

  23. I cast a vote for Billy Wagner

  24. Kevin Youkilis - hands down. I can't think of another single baseball player that even ranks #2, but this dickhead is #1 with a bullet. Nothing makes me more happy than seeing Joba throwing at him.

OK, maybe #2 would be Kevin Brown or Carl Pavano.

  25. ESPN only acknowledges the Cubs in Chicago. The White Sox may as well be stationed in Montreal, according to the daily coverage on ESPN.
