A Gift from a Baseball Fan

A week before the National I was at work and one of our patient's came in for his routine visit.  He was telling one of the other nurses a story about a friend of his who is the only player to ever get a hit for two teams in the same day.  So she tells him, "Oh you should talk to Marie she is a big sports fan and is going to some baseball thing next week."

He begins telling me about his friend, Joel Youngblood who comes up from Arizona I believe to visit him once a year and speak at the senior center.  It is one of the highlights of the patient's year, he loves spending time with him and talking sports.  So he tells me that he is going to bring me something next time he comes in for his appointment, doesn't mention what.  Now as nurses we all have favorite patients and this guy has always been one of mine as he reminds me of my grandfather. War Veteran, little old man, cute as a button and likes telling jokes and talking with everyone.

I get back from the National, patient comes in and says did you get what I left you?  I said I think one of the other nurses has it.  He tell me he brought me a baseball card!  He went on to say, I promised I'd bring you something and I didn't forget.  It was even in a penny sleeve and top loader!

It's nice to be in an environment out of the chaos of the hospital now and able to enjoy getting to know (some) people on a more personal level.  I thought this was a pretty cool story of how I acquired the card and I never had heard of this player before this whole conversation.

How do I get one of these?

I went to the Mets/Phillies game on Tuesday for fun. Even though I don't root for either team, it's always good to get to a game for leisure because I'm usually there for work.

I went with my boyfriend and one of our friends who is a huge Mets fans. She hasn't been to a game in a number of years, so we thought it would be fun for her to check out Citi Field.

Marie and I got to attend a game there last year after Yankees opening day. Luckily for me that day, the Mets were playing the Padres and I got to see Kouz in person for the first time. Oakland just so happens to be in Baltimore today and I am trying to keep myself from jumping in the car and driving down there. Although, it's not working out well.

When you enter Citi Field through the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, there Mets lineup is displayed at the top of the escalators in baseball card form. I just stared at the huge cards and wished somehow I could get one of those.

You hear me Topps! How do I get one of these?!

David Wright has a new trainer

Well, Sooz was right about Wright doing something different. He has all the right moves thanks to the "Situation" and his rigorous training routine.



Ohh this cracked me up.

The New York Mets are on a six-game winning streak and one thing has coincides with the NL East team's upswing.

Ike Davis is another one of these guys that has 156 cards on the market and yet not a single official rookie card. Topps announced earlier this year that its second rookie redemption in Finest will be Ike Davis. Since joining the Mets nine days ago, Davis is hitting .333 (9-for27) with a homer and five RBIs.

Sometimes it doesn't take a powerful swing to change a team around. Little times it's just the change in dynamic that can spark a team. The Mets are hot at the right time. They face the struggling Phillies this weekend in an exciting early season match up.

Even though Davis doesn't have a "RC" there are still some very nice cards of his on the market.
