A new-ish card set lost in the hype of Strasburg

Topps announced that Stephen Strasburg will appear in its remaining products this year starting with Allen & Ginter. That's fine. It's good for the industry.

Here's the list of sets he will be included in and I wonder if you balked at the same thing I did:

2010 Topps Allen & Ginter
2010 Topps Complete Sets
2010 Topps Tribute
2010 Topps T-206
2010 Topps Triple Threads
2010 Topps Chrome
2010 Bowman Chrome
2010 Topps Update
2010 Topps Sterling
2010 Bowman Platinum
2010 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects
2010 Bowman Sterling

Wait, wait, wait .... Bowman Platinum? That's not a baseball product, or at least hasn't been. Bowman Platinum is a football product.

Here's what Bowman Platinum for football looks like (link).

This set could include some high-end Strasburg items such as patches and a logoman cards. This is probably a product that is more about the hits than the base cards, so don't get too worried about completing the set.

However, considering there is sometime before this is released and other products to consider, things may change between now and then.

Of other note, interesting to see Bowman Chrome and Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects on the list. This is all early talk, but we've heard rumors of one of their demises recently.

  1. So does this mean Topps Update will cost way too much money and it'll cost me a fortune to collate it? Great.

  2. I think this year's card sets are just going to be expensive in general now because of Strasburg. The hype is good for the hobby, but collectors might go broke.

  3. Topps sent me a Hobby box of Topps Platinum Football last year and I wasn't all that impressed. Platinum is all about the three sticker autographs in a box a gimmicked rookie in each pack, all for $120/box.

Joe Collecctor might like it, but I'll take a pass on the baseball version.

  4. Thanks for letting me know, Chris.

I don't collect football, so I never saw any of this first-hand. Maybe ... MAYBE ... Platinum would be improved.

    Maybe.

  5. I'd love to have a Strasburg Platinum Auto Refractor to go along with my Harvin and Sanchez ones.

  6. So does this mean that everyone that is going all out for the Strasburg #661 card could just wait for the factory set to come out to get it?
