Happy New Year

I had planned on starting the New Year off by being nicer... Well, that's a lie I didn't plan on starting the new year any differently than I started today or 4 weeks ago. I think resolutions are kind of lame for two reasons, 1. why do people need an excuse to do something good for themselves, and 2. doesn't a new year technically start on your birthday?

I hope everyone out there has a great night, and a great day tomorrow filled with sports and food or the gym (which is where I will be).

I have a doozie of a story for everyone about dear old Topps, and how for the new year they can suck it. =)

....until then..... drink up, be merry, and stay safe.

Happy New Year.

Not a creature was stirring....

just me putting the presents out for the morning. I wrapped all my gifts during the snowfall over the weekend, labeled them tonight and put them out with my cards. I didn't notice any boxes wrapped for me that looked like hobby boxes which makes me sad, but then I think about the presents I do know and thats HAPPY TIMES! I love Christmas.

My favorite part of Christmas though is probably people's reaction to the presents I picked out for them. As an adult Christmas kind of loses the magic when you have to do all the shopping, wrapping, thinking, etc. And also because people tend to just ask you what you want or ask you to buy it and then they will give you the money and wrap it up for you.

With that being said I am eager to see Sooz tomorrow to give her the present I picked out, and because there's going to be tons of good food here and I probably wouldn't share it with anyone else even if it is Christmas.

I leave you all this hilarious Christmas video of me to enjoy for your holidays.

Merry Christmas to all our readers, and to all the great friends we have made through the blogosphere, like Flash and Kim whose address I may know by heart because I am always sending something there.

Happy Father's Day!

I wanted to wish all the Dad's out there a Happy Father's Day and ask how many of you were lucky enough to get some baseball cards from your children? The more important question here is how many of you have started collections for your young children, and gotten them interested in continuing their collections as they got older? I'm sure some of you have children too young to collect on their own, but there are others that probably have children old enough to decide what they like buying or collecting.

As a kid I was always taught about baseball, who played what position, and to root for the Yankees, of course. My dad took me to tons of games as a kid and even a Mets (boo) game or two in there, and we saw a Marlins game way back when they played at Joe Robbie Stadium. For Christmas my parents got me a complete set of Topps every year for a while, until I told them that it was boring not being able to open them and look at them. They wised up and started letting me get packs of cards here and there during the year, for report card rewards, being good for mommy in the store (I still use that one to this day), and then other family members got into spoiling the kids with cards. There was nothing like a pack of cards and rock solid gum peeled off the last card to chew on the way home.

If (big if here) I have children, they will definitely be collecting cards up until they tell me they hate it (which they won't), but if they do... more for me! I think it is very important today to give kids a positive hobby, and something that will bring them a little fun for a low price (relative to products purchased). Whenever I see little cousins or my friends nephews I always give them baseball cards. I'm the crazy adopted aunt that gives kids weird things. One of my friends nephews are Mets fans, so I happily put a few cards in a team bag and bring them when I see them. I brought Frankie, Sooz's nephew a bunch of Jeter's and Yankees for his birthday- we are trying very hard to make him like collecting and baseball.

If anyone wants to share a story, feel free. I will be going out to dinner with the family, and hopefully the restaurant has a tv to watch the Yankee game. I hope you all have a great day with your families.

Come pick up your Easter baskets

When I was younger, Easter was time spent with the family. Of course, after going to the unbelievable crowded mass, standing way in the back and then getting stuck in traffic on the way home. But it was Easter and we get to devour lamb and have our favorite treats, which always seemed to have lots of honey on them.

Now, kids get Easter baskets. I walk into my parents' home today where my the first question my six-year-old nephew asks me is: "where are our presents?"

My chipmunk-looking face just stared at him and said: "I'm here. That's all you need."

Since I didn't get my nieces and nephew anything that they seemingly enjoyed, I decided to hand out a few Easter baskets to my blogging friends (even if they are imaginary).

Marie: A couple of loaves of Easter bread, surrounding a 2001 Pujols Bowman Chrome Refractor, covered in top loader and team bag, of course.

Dinged Corners: The Beltran card you lost long ago, mixed in with a couple of David Wright cards for Lucy.

The Hamiltonian: A time machine and a ticket to last year's all-star game in Section 39 of Yankee Stadium. That's where the bleacher creatures sit and where Hamilton hit a few shots.

Night Owl Cards: The Extra Innings package on his computer to watch the Dodgers games while he is at work.

Tasted Like Dirt: A card collection that features his photos of Oakland A's.

Chris from Stale Gum: A Phillies pitcher that doesn't give up two or more runs in the first inning.

Wax Heaven: Miller mojo in every box you open.

Sports Cards Info: A booth at the National Trading Card show where people bring their cards to you.

Dropped third strike: A dual-signed Mattingly/Hughes card.

Waxaholic and Dave from Indians Baseball Cards: You both get the Vaughn bobblehead. (ThoughI think I want one too.)

Sports Cards Uncensored: A case all his own. No need to share.

Fielders Choice: A week-long stay in St. Pete during a Yankees-Tampa Bay series.

Captain Canuck:
Coal ... Awww, heck. I'll give ya something nice. Perhaps the Braves make it back to 1990s form.

Madding: A peek at Marie's basket before I give it to her. Maybe your own Pujols RC.

Goose Joak: A job with Upper Deck.

White Sox Cards: Yeah, you get White Sox cards.

Crackin' Wax: Your own baseball card line.

For the rest you, I give Peeps modeled after you favorite player. I know there are many blogs I didn't include in the list, but please don't hold it against me. I still love you.

Me and my throbbing mouth (minus three less teeth) are outta here.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to all!!

Just a little something I heard today on Fox that I thought was interesting to keep an eye on this season:

Mariano Rivera is 17 saves away from 500.

Gary Sheffield is sitting on 499 homeruns.

Randy Johnson currently has 295 wins.

Carlos Delgado is 30 homeruns away from 500.

I am 29 cards away from 1200 YSL. (OK, that wasn't on Fox but I'm sharing this.)

Clearly you all know which one I want to see happen. Mariano folks, come on.

I also want to say that I have no idea how the world survived without HD TV's and HD broadcasting. I remember when I was a kid and my parents got a new tv, a big screen projection one, and we though the picture was so clear and the colors were so bright, etc. If we saw that tv now we would probably think there was something wrong with it by comparison. I am not saying that it is a travesty for anyone to not have HD because you really wouldn't know the difference if you are used to regular tv. The reason I bring this up is because on Directv you get 60 games a week with the MLB Extra Innings package, and up to 40 a week in HD. The Padres/Giants game tonight was not in HD and it was almost painful to watch. It looked very blurry compared to watching the other games.

I am now done with that rant.

On another note, enjoy the day with your families and don't eat too much candy otherwise you'll pass out before the Game of the Week on ESPN.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day! I bought myself 2 packs of cards last night for Valentine's Day (see there was my excuse), and I didn't do too terrible but it wasn't really worth what was paid for the packs. It did scratch the itch though. I also got a fruit/chocolate covered fruit arrangement that is delicious and not very diet-like. Great gift idea if anyone needs a last minute one.

Anyone make any fancy plans? I'm not really a big fan of this holiday, just a Hallmark excuse to sell crap people don't need. Everyone should treat people the way they do today everyday, but what do I know. I plan on going to the movies later, though there isn't much out to see. I will also scan a few cards from my packs later.

If anyone wants to send me an Albert Pujols Upper Deck and or Upper Deck CL for Valentine's Day feel free. I know Sooz will gladly accept Valentine's in the shape of Derek Jeter (and no I don't mean that literally she doesn't need any cut-out silhouettes of the man).

2009 Cardboard Problem

As my first official post of 2009, I would like to wish you all a happy and healthy new year filled with cardboard (and hopefully some of it has Albert Pujols on it for trades).

For those of you who thought from the blog that I would cave and buy something first in 2009, you lost. For once, it wasn't me in Target spending money on stuff. Normally, I am the one to bet on as far as wasting money because I seem to hate money, not on purpose but it just appears that way. However, temptation was presenting itself bright and early on this New Years Day.

I left for work early for 2 reasons, to get breakfast and stop into Target. Obviously, I should not have been in Target because I swore off packs and blasters until the 2009 releases, but there I was ready to burn a $20. At any rate, they had nothing as usual and I ended up talking to a customer of my store for a bit about cards. I left with nothing (Eat it Sooz!), and kept my money all toasty in the bank.

You should all realize that this will change as soon as my store runs another sale, Target gets something cool, or the next card show. Either way you cut it, this resolution will be in the toilet by Jan 17, guaranteed.

My other resolution, I won't have a problem sticking to because I am addicted. So it will be back to the gym hardcore after a rather lazy week of on and off working out and eating EVERYTHING in sight.

Let me know if you bought something today, I like hearing about cool card people pulled or great deals. I will also try and post some sort of break later tonight or tomorrow for your reading and viewing pleasure.
