Phew. Finals and the semester are over and now I can relax for a little while. First, thank you to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday both here and on Twitter it was a fun day filled with food, and presents. Oh yeah, and Sooz came alllllllll the way here to hang out because she's the bestest. We got all dressed like grown ups and went out to dinner with my family. I have a nice picture, I like it... Sooz hates it... so therefore you all lose.

Speaking of Sooz being the best... She bought me some pretty awesome stuff for my birthday. One of which I should be embarrassed to admit and I may very well not even say what it was, and the other is a thing of beauty. It has all the elements- it's dirty and it feels sooo good. Hey now! Get your mind out of the gutter people.

2010 Topps Sterling Robinson Cano /25 5x GU with DIRT!


The picture of these glove cards really do them no justice until you have it in your hand. They feel like leather, which makes the card even more unique and desirable. Now that I have one, I would buy one of each version if I were rich. They are that nice, not to mention the fabric is dirty. There is nothing I like more than a game used card with dirt on it. Not only does it look cooler but it makes you feel like it was an actual game used card.

Leave it to Sooz to find another card to add to my top Cano cards. I LOVE this card. She is spot on with the kinds of cards I would like in my collection. My first dirty Robbie card, I like him dirty. =)

P.S. Now that finals are over, you are all going to be hearing from me more. Especially since I went to Target a few times....

Birthday Loot: 1967 Topps Mickey Mantle

I swear I am all out of birthday loot after this post.

My dad found a hobby shop by his job somewhere and picked up some presents from my parents for me there. I think he did okay, what do you think?


He's no Albert Pujols, but from what I understand this guy was a pretty good ball player, too.

I also got 2 packs of 2009 Sweet Spot which amazed me simply because I wouldn't have thought he would go for a pack like this over regular old Topps or something since he's old school. I crossed my fingers and ripped them open immediately hoping for my Derek Jeter signed glove numbered 2/2 (ahahaha, just kidding... kinda).

I really can't look at Grady the same way anymore. I think I might like it better this way, lol.

Overall, this birthday was, in the words of Borat, "Great Success!" The Mickey Mantle card is something I never expected so that was cool.

I also want to make a comment on the grading of that card. If you do an eBay search of some completed listings there are PSA 8's and 9's that were sold that look WAY more terrible than mine. There was one that is terribly off center (I'm aware of the centering on mine, but it's no where near as bad), and it got a PSA 9??? I wonder had this been graded elsewhere if it would have been higher. I don't own many graded cards and I would never buy one for myself but for a card like this I am more on the side of the fence where a graded one is not a bad idea for protection if nothing else. I still have the Bowman Mantle that I was going to get graded and never did (well 2 of them, one is in impeccable shape and the other not so much).

Birthday Loot: 2009 Unique Hobby Box Break & Mr. Cano

My brother (read: poor unsuspecting, had no choice in the matter brother) bought me a hobby box of 2009 Topps Unique and a Cano card for my birthday. First we will go over the Unique box of crap. I would have scanned one of the better cards I got but it seems as though I lost it somewhere in this abyss of cardboard, go f-in figure. It was a Francisco Cervelli RC, serial numbered to who the hell remembers. At any rate, I opened this box on my birthday with much anticipation and excitement. Sooz called me and I opened them on the phone since I thought it was going to be a really cool box to open. Not so much. I don't have anything good to say, so as the saying goes, I will say nothing at all. Here are the "hits" if you could even call them that.

Great news for the Hamiltonian who will eventually end up with this.

I have a knack for finding Ichiro cards, too bad I don't want them.

And this P.O.S. was in the second to last pack. Talk about a HUGE let down after waiting 21 packs of crap only to unveil CRAPOLA! Viola. I'm sure someone out there will give me a pack of fruit stripes gum for this, actually maybe just a stick of it, maybe even an ABC piece.

I should have listened to my brother and just picked one other card instead of picking a box of potential air. Thank God I bought this card off eBay for him to give me. He more or less had no choice in either of the gifts he bought, I bought them and he gave me the money. Makes his life easier and I get what I want. In my defense though, I picked this card up at a STEAL! It was less than $30 delivered, and if you look at what they have been going for that's ridiculous.

2009 Topps Triple Threads Robinson Cano dual gu auto 1/9

I seriously love these Triple Threads cards of Cano. The Robbie is still my favorite because it was the first one I saw and it is just awesome looking. It worked out that I didn't win the first couple of those because I like the way the swatches are on the one Sooz (outbid me on-- see yesterdays story) bought for me.

Last night Sooz drove allllllllll the way up to my house to take me to dinner for my birthday which was awesome because the food was really good and we had a good time. I also got my present!!! No brownies, but she's off the hook because the present rocked and I don't have any other friends that would go almost 3 hours out of their way to come have dinner.

I've said a thousand times that I could give a million reasons why Sooz is my best friend, but right now I will stick with 3 good reasons.

The Triple Threads card actually has a funny story. I had been trying to win one of these cards since I saw the first one on eBay. I missed 2 of them by like 50 cents and was steaming mad, then saw this one. I bid on it, got outbid, re-bid, etc. I reached my threshold for money on it with like a minute left to bid and gave up VERY angrily. I was bitching and complaining and so mad that I gave up and didn't put one more bid in since there aren't many of these. First I complained feverishly to Flash, and then to Sooz. She then asked me what the final price was and I told her. She called me immediately to yell at me. You might want to know why she yelled at me, but by now you know. She yelled at me for buying things for myself so close to my birthday, and for making her spend more money on the card that was eventually to be for me anyway. I laughed and felt kinda foolish. I was also greatly relieved and felt like I could relax, and bring my blood pressure back down to a normal rate. My adrenaline was pumping so well that night until she gave me the news.

So there you have it, we may not fight over men but we can sure duke it out good over an eBay auction. Sooz is the best.

Happy Birthday to my worst best friend ever

Today is Dec. 10 and it's Marie's birthday ... I think.

Oh yeah, it definitely is. I just wanted to say happy birthday to Marie. I got her, oh wait, she didn't get the present yet.

I'll let her show you what I got, although, she does know part of gift. I won't say she tried outbidding me on the item on eBay and then got angry when she didn't win only to feel better when she learned later that I won the card.

But I won't say she didn't either.




P.S. I have no idea who Landon is.

Kouz's Big Stick

As Marie delightfully pointed out last Saturday, it was my birthday. Despite coming from a large family, I got an underwhelming amount of gifts for my - ugh - 29th birthday. We had a little party at my brother's house that including red velvet cake Marie bought for me and plenty of food.

Mind you, I asked for the party at my brother's house in New York, which is two hours away from where I live.

My boyfriend bought me gifts, which I could never complain about. My parents gave me money. However, I am going to show off the gifts Marie got me because, well, they're awesome.

First in the gift bag was this Kouzmanoff t-shirt. I've wanted for a while, but I figured since my family and friends know me so well, someone would eventually buy it for me for a birthday or Christmas.

Marie got it.

This was the biggie present. I knew what the object was when I saw the box. You kind of don't have a choice, but I didn't know exactly what it was.

My first guess was that it was a Louisville Slugger with my own name on it. That's a pretty cool gift and do those kind of things.

However, I was much happier with what was actually in the box.

It's a Kevin Kouzmanoff signed game-used bat. Marie got me Kouz's Big Stick for my birthday. I couldn't be happier.

I think my boyfriend is getting sick of Marie's presents.
