My Loot from the 2010 Topps Million Card Giveaway

I finally decided to give in a redeem these Million Card Giveaway suckers to see what I got, or didn't get for that matter. I had 10 codes to redeem and toyed with selling them on eBay for a while but figured I should take a shot just in case there is a Pujols card in the bunch here.

Here is my loot:

1. 1969 Rookie Stars Jerry Crider/Geo. Mitterwald, Minnesota Twins

3. 1959 Andy Pafko, Milwaukee Braves

4. 1979 Dave Heaverlo, Oakland A's

5. 1963 Ernie Bowman, San Francisco Giants

6. 1959 Sporting News Rookie Stars Dick Stigman, Cleveland Indians

7. 1972 Carlos May, Chicago White Sox

8. 1976 Joe Niekro, Houston Astros

9. 1979 Ron Jackson, California Angels

10. 1964 Dave Wickersham, Detroit Tigers

I am rather surprised that I got all vintage cards, but surprised in a good way. I was expecting to end up with some cards that were a year or two old at most and ended up winning with all vintage. For the record, all of these codes were from retail packs. I didn't buy a single 2010 Series 1 Hobby pack. I probably will not have a single one of these shipped to me, but the process was more fun than I thought it would be.

If anyone is interested in any of these let me know, I'm more than willing to trade them.

Welcome home Adam

Recently I had sold a couple of cards on eBay that afforded me some splurging for my collection. While I can't exactly say it was a sane spree that I went on, it was fun while it lasted. Now one of the items I sold was so ridiculous and really illustrates the whole supply and demand theory was a card I pulled from a 2010 Topps Series 1 Blaster.

You are all familiar with the guaranteed blaster manufactured patches, but what you may not know is that if you checked listings for 2010 Topps Patches on eBay for what patches have sold you may be surprised at what you can get rid of. I sold one of my blaster patches which left me a nice chunk of change to play with, it was a Tim Lincecum Patch. Since I knew no one would believe what I got for it, you can click it and find out to see with your own eyes since it is no longer in the completed listings.

So in any event, I had a few days of insanity on eBay trying to win myself a 2010 Adam Lind silk card. I got into a bidding war with someone at the last few seconds on one, and once it ended I was like what was I really thinking? It was around $16.50 when it ended and I honestly in my right mind, and without the Lincecum money would NEVER entertain bidding like that on this kind of card unless it was Pujols. I wound up getting my Adam Lind silk from a seller I have bought from many times in the past and is pretty great.

I also picked up my 2010 Adam Lind gold card from seller tntnorthnj who has been a long time favorite seller of many people from around the blogosphere.

I also have a pile of cards here, and when I say pile I mean at least 50 that need to be logged in and put away but I just haven't made the time to do so yet. I'm on spring break after this week so I will probably work on that then, as well as some other things I have been putting off like a bonehead. (Read: I will be showing how I spent the rest of that later.)

Topps Million Card Giveaway

Why didn't I think of this as a blog contest? I could have gotten rid of every card I hate and/or don't want by sending you all codes... However, I have a life and no time to come up with a system to do such event. Anyway.... I'm done poking fun.

It seems like most people are having a slow time redeeming their codes, or having no luck at all. I have to find my code cards before I can try and redeem them. I will probably wait a few days until the chaos and slow registration dies down.

If you were able to redeem your Topps Million Card Giveaway code cards, what did you get? I am curious as to what is floating around out there since not everyone that collects uses twitter. Feel free to list your cards and perhaps maybe you guys can use the lists as a way to trade for cards you would like.

This is why people hate the Yankees

It's not the pies that makes other people hate the Yankees, but the fact that those outside of the Yankees have to glorify it.

Topps announced 12 variations in 2010 Topps Series 1 that feature Yankees getting pied after their walk-off wins. As a Yankee fans, I enjoyed every single one of them. I attended four or five of them, which was a 90 percent rate considering the amount of games I got to see at Yankee Stadium last year.

However, why does anyone is not a Yankee fan care about these variations? Furthermore, why does a set like this need to glorify it this way?

I'm not saying I wouldn't lick the pie off ARod's face - actually I am going to say that, I would - but when else has Topps or Upper Deck commemorated a team winning over so many different cards.

Every year there is card highlighting the World Series champions, which I think is a great idea. You don't  know when your team is going to win again and it's a nice piece to add to your collection when it's your team.

But 12 cards featuring guys creaming each other? Perhaps this should go in another set that is not sold to children.

Here's some more information regarding these cards (link) and another mystery that has yet to be revealed (link ... look toward the bottom for the mystery) regarding 2010 Topps Series 1. Where's Stale Gum when you need him?

Psst.... Look what I found...

Sorry I have been so quiet lately, but the only excitement in card collecting I have had are 2010 Topps blasters, and I can't get excited enough to scan another blaster. There isn't much worth scanning in them, and I am lazy about scanning. I've also been attempting to get my brain back into school mode and out of Spongebob mode.
Anyway, I picked up a couple of cards for my PC but still need a few and I am hoping that someone out there can help me fill in the gaps. Here is what I found: I still need to get my mitts on gold #42 and #206. If anyone has those and could offer them for a trade, or CTBNL (card to be named later) that would be awesome.
From the last blaster I opened (I've opened the one I showed on here and this other one) I pulled the usual types of inserts but there were only 2 worth scanning to me. I was shocked to have pulled a Pujols throwback and for it to be his actual base card and not one of the others made me doubly happy. I am also looking for throwback #4, 42, 206, 327. Oh, I just realized I lied. I pulled 3 Yankees throwbacks as well, Sabathia, Dunn RC, and Yankees checklist card with Jeter, A-Rod, and Cano.
I have all my Tigers throwbacks put aside for Grand Cards, and if anyone is interested in trading throwbacks let me know, I am only keeping the guys I collect.

2010 Topps Series 1 Blaster

In case you are wondering why I bought this, I honestly do not have an answer. I do lots of dumb things involving baseball cards. But enough with the jibber jabber, lets see what was in the blaster.

"Blasters contain 10 packs plus one patch card, includes 2 packs of exclusive throwback parallel cards".
We'll start with the thowback packs:

My favorite card in the box:

My second favorite card is over here:

And here are the rest:

Commemorative Patch: Tim Lincecum

It's very rare that I get "a" Pujols card in a blaster, much less 3 of them so this was very exciting for me. Odds on the original back were not in my favor at all, but there he was! I needed the Peak Performers card as well, but already had the Legendary Lineage one.

As far as Albert goes, I am still looking for: #4, Target exclusive red back, both league leaders gold cards, all black borders, When they were young, silk collection, and the other cards your mom threw away. If you have any of those, pretty much all my inserts are for trade.

2010 Topps Series 1 Baseball Checklist Link

I know many people have been wondering where to get a checklist for this set, and Sooz found a good one.

And as always, if you have any Pujols for trade, let me know.

2010 Topps Series 1 Baseball Favorites and Randoms

Sooooo...... it appears that I have a wee bit of an addiction to opening packs. They are like potato chips, you can't just open one. Well, maybe you can but I can't. I opened some more packs, I know you are surprised by that. I also may complete a set before they even get "released" at this rate.

I love this card probably one of my favorites in the set, yet the one thing I don't understand is how they didn't include Hits as a category on the back considering Jeter chased Gehrig and passed him. Then again, I just have to remind myself it's Topps and not to ask why.

This is a great card because he just looks great in a Dodgers uniform.

Here are some Leader cards that will fit nicely into my PC, poor Adam missed the HR leader card by 1 homerun, and Aaron Hill was tied with Jason Bay yet he was left out in favor of Bay.

My boys decided to come home, though in separate packs.

Some cards from the "Cards your mom threw out" sub-set....

When They Were Young card that I wish my mom threw out.

Gold border that I would like to trade for Adam Lind gold perhaps.

Tales of the Game

Legendary Lineage

Another Turkey Red

History of the Game

Well there you have it. Confessions of a cardboard addict.

Anyone out investigating?

Last night I decided to go to another Target and see what was going on there, and if they had some 2010 Toppsor anything else leaked. Turns out they had nothing. Not even an empty gravity box. Something tells me that these "early releases" are sent to select Target's and perhaps on purpose. Last year the exact same thing happened, the one closer to where I live had stuff but not the other one. Also, no blasters to be seen. Maybe Topps leaks random retail to add to the hype and anticipation of a new set coming out.

I ended up back at the Target that has had them for days, and well there were still packs left. Did I buy any more? Maaaaayyyybeeee...... did I get any cool inserts?! Well, you'll have to wait and see.

Has anyone else been out looking for these things? Anyone locate a blaster? Though I am sure if someone found blasters I would have heard about it by now. Ohhh even better..... any local hobby shops got their boxes early?

Let me know if anything interesting has popped up in your town this way I have something to procrastinate studying for tomorrow and during the week ;)

More 2010 Topps Series 1 Previews

For those of you who are not new here, you probably knew I would end up back at Target and that's great because it means you have been reading. If you thought I was done, well you need to pay more attention. I'm not listing all the base cards, but I scanned the inserts and a few base cards of interest with some scans of the backs so you can see what the back looks like as well. So feast your eyes on these:

Copper ToppsTown
Beckett, Lee, Teixeira
PUJOLS, A-Rod, Wright
Banks, Robinson
Maris
McCutchen
Yaz (Cards you thanked your mom for throwing away)
Howard/Hamels, Pudge, Yaz back
Carlton, Mauer, Pedroia (hate him)
Hernandez Gold
Mariano, Mantle, Robinson
The Yankees. Double of one checklist, the "Anthem in New York with Jeter, A-Rod, and Cano are checklist cards, which there are 5 of total)
Gayest baseball card picture this year, guaranteed.
For Tricia. 'Nuff said.
Why on Earth would they use this terrible picture? Bah.
Only a month to find out I won air.

So.... Taaaadaaahhhhhh. I'm done now. (Maybe) I went back to Target after dinner thinking the whole gravity box would be empty by now, and there were ALOT of packs missing but there were still about 40 left. I cracked 10 in this post, in case you were wondering how I did on the odds.
