Topps can suck it in 2010

Thank you for responding to my letter about my missing jumbo patch serial numbered to 40 or less missing from my craptastic hobby box of 2009 Unique so quickly. I really do appreciate your computer generated letter of nothing that has nothing at all to do with the problem I had, nor does it rectify the situation in any capacity.

Oh, and I also want to thank you for replacing the JUMBO PATCH CARD /40 or less with a card that sucked as much as the rest of the box I wrote the letter complaining about. I guess your solution to customer service now that you have an exclusive with MLB in 2010 is to send the consumer whatever is laying around the office in the hopes that you will appease the lowly peon that purchased a box of junk for $120. Super.

Perhaps if I were a 12 year old child I wouldn't know better, or know the difference between JUMBO and itsy bitsy /275 but I am an adult and sadly I do. If I hadn't mentioned that the box was missing a JUMBO patch or that I collect a few different players, NONE of which are Joe Mauer then this card would have made sense. (For the record I like Joe Mauer alot.)

If you don't plan on delivering what is stated on the box, then why bother writing it? Furthermore if you are going to make me spend more money to send you a letter, 24 wrappers, and a UPC code to get the missing card, you could send the JUMBO patch card and not whatever you felt like.

Where has Covered in Wrappers been?

This past week has been so much fun for me, and I think I can speak for Sooz as well when I say that. Though Sooz was working the whole World Series I know she enjoyed being there to watch the Yankees beat the Phillies.

I have been waiting since 1996 to see the Yankees win the World Series. Long story short, me and my brother were apparently "too young" to be dropped off at the game at 15 and 10 to see them win, so we have both been waiting since then for another opportunity. Needless to say I took my brother to game 6 and we had a great time.

Sooz and I went to the parade in NYC yesterday and then hung out with some of the Bleacher Creatures after. We had a good time despite both being exhausted and kinda grumpy in the morning. We're not morning people so a 6am wake-up call (at least for me) was a bitch and a half.

I will probably write a little bit better of a synopsis of my experience at a later date, but you will probably be able to read about it on UD's blog. I have been catching up on blogs and schoolwork now that I have nothing to watch on tv.

On a semi-related note, a collectors edition of Yankees cards was brought to my attention today and I don't know if I will be ordering it but I figured I would share it in case someone is interested. QVC is offering a 2009 World Series Champions 27 card set of great Yankees moments from the post season made by Topps. You get the 27 card set for $16.32 on an introductory price with release/shipping on 12/11. I may cave in and request this as a Christmas gift from someone but I must say I really don't see how these cards, which appear to just be Topps base card quality are worth $16.32 plus shipping.

I finally got it

It took many months of patience and bidding attempts on eBay but I finally got my 2009 Topps Heritage Albert Pujols C10 Chrome Refractor. Amen. Thanks to Amy for trading that and a bunch of YSL cards for the 1954 Bowman Burgess card.



Now for another card that I can cross off the want list that I never even put on there because I'm lazy. Dan over atSaints of the Cheap Seats was kind enough to send along a Career Best game used (so they say) bat card of Robbie Cano, which may complete the game used portion of Cano cards from 2009 Topps for me, I will have to check. I hope I can find something he might like, though I do think I have a little something to e-mail him about shortly.



My last piece of mail was from eBay, and was quite the bargain. eBay sponsors an "eBay bucks" program that is offered to select members, it may be open to everyone now I'm not sure and I accumulated $3.82 or something like that. I found the 2009 Allen & Ginter N43 Albert Pujols for $4.95 free shipping as a buy-it-now and pounced on it. The card cost me $1.13 total, and I couldn't be happier because the rest can be used to be some other thing I don't need on eBay.



Now onto big business... Does anyone have any Pujols from 2009 Allen & Ginter that they would want to trade me? I already have the mini, and mini black border as well as the N43. Let me know.

Weekend 6 pack

No, I am not going to show you beer even if you beg. My idea of a 6 pack is totally different, on two levels but we shall only showcase one here. My idea for the purpose of the blog are 4 packs of 2009 Topps Series 2 and 2 packs of 2009 Bowman for a total of 6 packs. Couple of interesting cards were found amongst the rubble that are base cards. (all packs are from Target)

Nothing great, but I did need the Cano. Has anyone noticed how some of the Topps from Series 2 have the letters with no silver in them? Did they run out of foil and just didn't care to replace it, or was it intentional? Maybe I am a little behind on this topic but was this intentional? I haven't been doing much reading online this week due to classwork. If you wrote about it on your blog and I missed it, I'm sorry I suck.

I was at K-Mart this afternoon and for those of you that follow me on Twitter, you saw a few pictures of what they had to choose from. One of the packs they had were 2009 Topps Heritage 'jumbo' packs, if you will. These packs had 14 cards plus gum for $5.99. They also remained in the store after I left because that is more than I care to spend on something I don't really need anything out of. More on the K-Mart story later on...

My patience pays off

As many of you already know I love eBay. I also love when I can contain myself and have some patience to wait for cards to drop in price to buy them. I need this last card to complete my Topps for 2009 (I'm not chasing the black /58), and I won it for 99 cents.

2009 Topps #4 Gold

The same seller also had another card I needed, and the shipping was combined for I think $1.50 or so. You can't beat that for shipping on eBay. That's one thing that is good and bad to do on there. I always check when adding a card to my watch list to see if the same seller has other cards that I need this way I only pay for shipping once. It's bad because you tend to buy more than you planned on.

2007 Adam Lind Gold

Last night I picked up a few steals, some had free shipping which makes me smile. I will save those for a later release but all the Pujols collectors that were sleeping last night, I thank you very much.

Anyone pick up anything good on eBay lately? It seems as though I have better luck when I don't care about paying attention to the things I want. If I bid one price and then tell myself that there is no more bidding I seem to win.

Going to the Yankee game on Friday and Sunday, I sold my tickets for tomorrow so maybe I should go Target hunting tomorrow... Can someone ask the Target people to get in some more 2009 products? Maybe if we all promise to buy them, they will start sending them.

Mail Day

Currently I am sitting in my desk chair watching Mariano Rivera pitch the 7th inning against Boston in a tie 1-1 game. I figured I would share a very generous mail day from Todd, a reader of the blog. My delay in sending his cards hopefully will not make him a non-reader.

Todd sent over the 2009 Spectrum red /250 Pujols as we discussed, and threw in a 2008 SP Authentic Marquee Matchups Pujols/Lidge, and a retro 2009 Topps #4, Jones, Pujols, Holliday card which makes me want to go find myself a retro blaster. Those cards are way cooler than the base set. I scanned those cards for your viewing pleasure. Todd was also kind enough to throw in some Yankee Stadium Legacy cards which made me smile from ear to ear.

I am going to dig some more to look for more cards for Todd, so keep an eye on your mailbox.

More to 2009 Topps

After opening an entire case of 2009 Topps, we thought we saw everything we needed to when it came to the brand.

We were wrong.

After making a trip to Target for no other reason than to stare at the cardboard aisle, I saw there was something different in the Topps blaster. Marie had sent me a picture earlier stating that you could get commemorative patches of legends. She thought, as did I at the time, that the cards were the ones we pulled out the case, the letter patches. However, after reading the packages, there is an entirely different set out there for collectors.

The patches are replicas of important events that these players have participated in.

2009 Topps Team Sets

You guys spent a lot of time with us on Wednesday, entertaining us and checking out the cards. Some also made a mention that you would like team sets from the 2009 Topps case. So before listing the team set on eBay, we thought we'd give you guys first crack at the cards. We finally got the cards organized.

The sets (depending on the number of cards for each team) will range from $1 to $5. Shipping for these team sets would be just $2.

Shoot us an email and Marie is the best when it comes to shipping cards. You'll get them pretty fast.

By Wednesday, we should have the 2009 Topps Jumbo case and we plan on doing a live case break, starting at 4 p.m. Upper Deck comes out the day before, but this is our first official endeavor into the 2009 products.

Some of the highlights for the the jumbo boxes include: one auto and two game-used relics per box. One Legends of the Game nicknamed jersey patch in every jumbo box, along with turkey red inserts, sketch cards and other fun stuff.

However, there could be a small kink in our plans. Marie needs to drive down to the Hot Rod Farm (that's where I live) next week and apparently the weather pundits are calling for a snowstorm in the Northeast on the days that the new 2009 products are to arrive.

The snow could mean one of two things that could happen.
1. The shipping gets delayed and we have to wait one or two days.
2. Marie can't get down here because of all the conditions.

Let's all hope that snow stays away for another day because I'm sure Marie won't mind getting stuck at my house for the weekend.

2009 Topps Series One Baseball

It is official, we have pre-ordered a case of 2009 Topps Series One Jumbo. Normally, I personally don't have any real interest in series one Topps, or series two for that matter. After reading the inserts, ratio, and autographs I had to have this. I was reading this all to Sooz on the phone while secretly wanting this, and then she said she agreed with my opinion.

I snagged this brochure/sales pitch from work so everyone could see the preview of what the cards will look like. After seeing this it made me actually excited for Topps, for once.

Of course you all know who I am hoping to pull from this case, however there are alot of great players and legends in the mix which is pretty good for Series One. Even Turkey Red inserts, which makes me wonder what they are going to do with that series from then on.

The Barack Obama Inaugural Edition

Beckett released information today stating that Topps will be releasing a 90 card set chronicling Barack Obama's historical campaign and election to the White House. The cards are set to release before the Inauguration in January and will have a price of $1.99 per pack.

Do I believe they will end up costing a heck of alot more than $1.99 a pack? "You betchya".
