Since we don't have a case break already in the works we need to make that happen. I want to know what you guys think would be a good case break for the next one. I am anticipating doing one or two more this year but that's about it.

Sunday Question
Well, we are through one round of the playoffs and there were some interesting results. Moving onto the next round we have the following match-ups:
ALCS
Texas Rangers v. Detroit Tigers
NLCS
Milwaukee Brewers v. St. Louis Cardinals
This weeks question is fairly simple. What team was the biggest surprise/letdown in the ALDS?
For me there was one surprise, and that was the Cardinals beating the Phillies. With the starting rotation of the Phillies I really didn't see them getting bounced in the first round.
You may be wondering if I was surprised by the Yankees getting bounced, but I really wasn't. The team wasn't hitting at all with the exception of Cano, Posada, and Gardner. Hard to win games when you can get guys on base. Was I disappointed, sure. Surprised, not at all. Tigers played better.

Sunday Question
Most of us buy a ton of cards on eBay during the year and maybe even some other useful stuff like sneakers, phone accessories, t-shirts, etc. I've been on eBay for a little over ten years and I have used it for everything from cards, car accessories, gifts, running an eBay store, Power Seller, consignment business- you name it and I have probably bought it or sold it on eBay.
Do you remember why you first signed up for an eBay account? Or what was it that prompted you to join the craze?
I first signed up to buy carbon fiber racing pedals and xenon headlights for my Honda Accord. I actually even signed up through eBay motors and not even the regular site. I mainly used it to buy stuff to change out factory parts in my car. I don't think I bought cards on it until after college (the first college try) at some point.

Sunday Question
As most of you know Suzy is a sports writer in the South Jersey area. This weekend during what was supposed to be something great to end football double sessions and get the team together there was a completely devastating tragedy.
Four young kids from Mainland High School were killed this weekend when their car flipped several times on the Garden State Parkway. You can read more about this horrendous accident on the Press of Atlantic City's website.
So this week there is no question but we are asking you to please keep their families in your thoughts and prayers. If you would like to leave a comment on the newspaper site, perhaps when things settle down in a few weeks or months and those parents go back and read all these comments they will see how many people were thinking about them and saying a prayer for their families.

Sunday Question
While at the National, Topps hosted a meet & greet type of event where collectors could attend and ask questions or voice comments. They did the same thing last year and some of the questions/concerns were directed at sets released in baseball and football. Many people wanted to know why a certain set was discontinued or way they let another run for too long, or just general problems with sets/cards.
If you could bring back one baseball set for a release next year what would it be and why?
For me it would be Turkey Red hands down. I loved this set because a great deal of the autographs were on card, the set was simple while having variety with different colors and it contained no subset mumbo jumbo. Chrome variants were enough to keep this set entertaining for me, but they weren't anything I chased after. This set is also where I pulled my Mariano Rivera on card autograph (even though it was a redemption).

Sunday Question
As most of you already know Derek Jeter
became the 28th man in the 3,000 hit club on Saturday July, 9, 2011. I think Elias stated that out of every man who has played in the big leagues, statistically only 0.163 % (or something like that) ever reached that milestone.
As hard as it is to get to 3,000 hits, it is certainly a reachable goal if you are consistent day in and day out and stay healthy.
This week's question is in regard to the 3,000 hit club. I'm curious as to who everyone thinks will realistically get into this elite club. You can view the list of active hits leaders in MLB here to see if you think one of these guys will get there. My personal guess is that A-Rod will be the next guy to get into the club, however I don't think it will have the same appeal to fans as Jeter doing it.
I was at the game to see Jeter do it and plan to post my journey with Jeter soon.
P.S. If anyone wants a commemorative Jeter shirt, hat, pin, sticker, tissue, earplug, etc. Modells and Sports Authority have a ton of stuff, however I didn't see anything in Target.

Sunday Question
Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there who read our blog!
In honor of the day our question of the week will involve your father. Typically in a family the father is the sports oriented parent who teaches you how to play ball, whatever the sport may be, or maybe just got you into watching sports or collecting cards. Maybe it wasn't your dad who did it, maybe it was your grandfather or an uncle.
My question is: What is your favorite memory with your dad growing up? Age isn't a big factor in the question so if it was later in life seeing a no hitter or a World Series game together, we would still love to hear it.
Drop us a note then go back to hanging with your kids, your dad, or both and enjoy your day. =)

Sunday Question
While I am aware that this may be a very loaded and dangerous question, I think this would be a great chance to see what really bothers all of us or what we all like. With all the releases that have come out this year so far we have seen some great ideas implemented by Topps and some not so great ideas. We have seen poor quality control issues, lack of innovation but we have seen products that have also included some nice inserts (The Diamond Anniversary cards), and a nice year long promotion with the Diamond Giveaway Code cards.
If given the opportunity to voice your concerns, ask questions, or praise a particular aspect of a set what is it that you would let the Topps company know? Is there something you would like to see brought back? Anything along those lines. Please drop a comment.
Topps does read our blog and I do communicate with them when I read enough about something being wrong or strange so if I see a consistent theme throughout the comments I will make it a point to contact Topps and see what we can find out.
For me personally, one of the things that really bothered me was the missing autographs in the Gypsy Queen and how that was known about prior to release leaving all of us to spend money sending UPC's back. I think the lack of Quality Control in too many instances would be my biggest concern.

Sunday Question
The injury to Buster Posey this week sparked a debate around baseball on whether rules should be changed regarding runners headed for home.
Florida Marlins' reserve Scott Cousins propelled himself in Posey as he was attempting to catch the ball.
Posey ended up with a broken leg and ligament damage in his ankle from this collision. He'll likely be out for the season.
I've made my opinion on the matter (and even had a Facebook poll, if you want to vote). I think rules regarding how runners attempt to score on close plays should be examined and, hopefully, changed. I feel too many players have been injured in these types of plays. Besides Posey, think of Carlos Santana from last season or Angels' catcher Bobby Wilson. Wilson made his first big league start when Mark Teixeira smashed into him. Wilson suffered a concussion and hurt his leg.
Who has forgotten Ray Fosse?
I think the way the NCAA handles such situations is better than MLB. If catcher are not blocking the plate, runners should try to avoid contact and get into a sliding lane. If the runner does barrel over the catcher and the umpire deemed it unnecessary, the player is out.
I know there are many people who don't agree with my opinion, but that's why we have the Sunday question. What do you think MLB should do regarding home plate collisions?

Sunday Question
This weeks hot topic has definitely been the release of 2011 Bowman
. The hype associated with this product has been great, but I still think last year has it beat with the Strasburg
cards. I think that this year's product will do very well with Bryce Harper
as the "chase" card for the set, but it probably won't turn into the circus we all experienced last year where you couldn't find a pack for months in a local retail store.
I went on Card Corner Club Radio the other night and talked about the product for a little bit with Rob and Doug. One of the things we touched on that we all noticed was the lack of quality in the facsimile autograph scans. I don't know if you guys noticed this on some of your cards, but you should take a look at them. (Note: Bryce Harper's signature is pristine on scans.) Aside from that I didn't really see much lacking in terms of the quality control aspect.
Here is what I am wondering: What was the best part of the 2011 Bowman in your eyes? What was the worst?
For me personally, I love the inserts. Now, take that in stride before you guys attack. I will say that I think there are too many inserts this year and maybe it's turned into a bit of a mockery of the player collector in the sense that they put Best, Brightest, Future, 100, etc. and now you are stuck chasing a bunch of cards that are essentially all the same thing. What I specifically like is that Topps added some new designs and elements to the set. What I think would have served them and all of us better was separating some of these out to Chrome, Draft Picks & Prospects, and maybe even Series 2 of the flagship set.
Now the worst part.... Redemption autographs of mystery players. Honestly, what is that all about? As if it's not bad enough for the box to not have the autograph or one of the autographs, they couldn't even tell you who you are getting. That really annoys me. They have an autograph checklist, what is the issue here? Perhaps I should e-mail someone at Topps and ask what the deal is with this mess.

Sunday Question
In the few short days since the Gypsy Queen
case break I have gotten several e-mails ask when the next break is and what will it be. It has already been announced, it will be Topps
Series 2 Jumbo
and I have on order two cases. One case is listed here, the other is listed on our facebook page (Card Bandits). Both breaks are still open with teams available.
I am looking for your guys to jump in on one or the other and help me fill them asap.
As far as my question goes, here it is:
I priced out 2011 Topps Lineage
, and it would be $42 per team because I am eliminating 6 teams from the break that don't have a chance at a hit (at least from what I could tell skimming the checklist). That means no Royals, DBacks, Marlins, Pirates, Nationals, and Padres. Now if someone wants one of those teams at a discount since there isn't much in them we can talk.
Yankees, Cardinals, and Phillies would be claimed already. I made a mistake in the GQ break and that person was offered first pick here. So that would leave 21 teams left to be paid. I am not putting a deposit unless at least 18 people respond yes.

Sunday Question
This week we will be breaking a case of 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen
which I am super excited about. Following that I have a case of 2011 Topps Series 2 Jumbo
for the blog, and also another break running through our Facebook friends for all the friends of the Card Bandits. If you are looking for a team that is taken on the blog break, please grab it on the Facebook break.
So we have those to look forward to and that's awesome. I like doing the case breaks because then we can all get the cards we want of our teams and players without spending a ton ripping wax or buying singles. Plus, you can always trade with the people on the breaks to complete sets which makes life easier for everyone looking to build a set.
I was looking on Blowout Cards site at the 2011 Topps Lineage case, and it seems pretty damn cool. There are 3 hits per box including at least one on card auto. The cards are basically reprints of old cards but signed versions. Obviously we all hope there are no 1987-1991 cards in there.
That leads me to my next obvious Sunday Question....
What do you think of this set? Is this something you would be interested in buying a team in? (Please don't tell me what team you want because it won't matter until we figure out if we are doing it.)
It looks like it could cost per team roughly the same amount (probably around $5-$10 more) as Gypsy Queen which isn't too terrible. It may be a few bucks more because I will more than likely eliminate the Royals and Pirates unless someone is willing to take them.
Keep in mind, I need to fill the Series 2 break before committing to anything else so maybe you guys could ask around and try and get some friends to jump in that break and then we can get this one rolling.

Sunday Question
Yesterday I mentioned that I had a TON of cards laying around that needed to be logged in and put away. However, I don't think anyone could truly understand how bad it has become. There are cards on my desk from a show I went to last September.
Now, it's not that I don't try and put them away. I make an attempt here and there to get stuff logged in an put away but I just haven't reached the bottom of this pile. I know, I suck. The worst part of this "cardboard problem" is that I have way too many cards that I don't even want of all teams.
Maybe a year or so ago I did a cleaning where I asked people which team they wanted and they paid me only for shipping and got all the cards. That helped me clean up a little bit. I guess the question/questions that are on my mind today are the following:
Do you find yourself behind on putting cards for your personal collection away? What do you do with all the inserts, parallels, and cards of the teams and guys you don't collect?
I almost feel like we need to organize a mass trade of some sort. Like each blog would get to trade for their team. Like everyone sends me their Yankees (ONLY- Cano, Jeter, Martin, ARod) and I would send you your team. And we could get a bunch of blogs to participate and help everyone eliminate unwanted cards.
All the cards that I don't collect end up in piles on my desk until they go into boxes. Once they are in boxes, I never look at them again unless someone is looking for something of that player or that set. Sometimes I wish I were the type of person who could just throw base cards out, but I just can't do it.

Sunday Question
I was trying to think of something fun and baseball season related to ask this week rather than going with something based on cards. While I was trying to think of a question, I started to think about the National which made me think about visiting new stadiums.
So the question of the week is.......
How many baseball stadiums have you visited?
I have been to 8 total: Yankee Stadium (old and new), Shea Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park, Joe Robbie Stadium (way back when), Citizens Bank Park, Camden Yards, Dodger Stadium. I've also seen some minor league parks but let's stick with the big leagues.
I am very excited to see Wrigley Field this summer along with U.S. Cellular and hopefully Miller Park (Cards v. Brewers!). Anyone planning on going to see a new stadium this summer?

Sunday Question
The season is still less than a week old and there have already been some amazing moments and a few "almost" moments.
Kyle Drabek
took a no-hitter to the 6th inning as did Chris Tillman
, Cliff Lee
fanned 11 in his first start, J.P. Arencibia
hit 2 homeruns and drove in 5 runs in his debut, the Rangers are crapping all over the Red Sox, and the Mets actually won a game.
Obviously much more than just that has happened in a few short days. Has anything surprised you so far? Any players make the 25 man roster that you are excited about or any get cut that you thought you would see in the big league club to start the season?
Personally I really thought Jesus Montero
would be a backup catcher this season however I understand and agree that he should be somewhere playing everyday and working on his game. Oh, and.... How about my boy Russ?! A stolen base and a homerun already as a Yankee. Sigh.
I am also very pleased to see Mark Teixeira off to a solid start this year, as well as my boy Adam Lind. Lind belted a homer already which is a good sign and I would love to see him have a great season. I'm still on the fence about parting with my Lind collection to fund my Cano collection in the event that he has a good start and I can flip his cards, but that is a whole other story.

Sunday Question
Only two weeks left to the start of the greatest season in sports! Well, it's the greatest for me. I honestly haven't been watching that much of the spring training games because I find them hard to get into when they are meaningless and only half the team is playing at a given time.
So what is it that you are most looking forward to about baseball season starting in two weeks?
For me it is definitely getting out to the games and being able to be outside hanging out (where there is no snow to be shoveled). I'm eagerly awaiting Opening Day and have every intention of ditching my Chemistry lab that day to be there.

Sunday Question
As most of you know we are doing the 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen as our next group case break and I really want to get another one in the works. I absolutely can not do that without filling the Gypsy Queen so if you guys could get the word out to fill up the last few slots (see link on side bar) I would be really grateful.
Now that that's out of the way, my question is: What would you like the next break to be?
I was looking into Bowman jumbos, however the price is sky high and my local source got locked out of cases, and I don't think anyone online will be reasonable. I know the direct cost on it and it just doesn't add up to buy in at the current market price.
Anyone interested in a higher end product where we would split it maybe 20 ways, eliminating the teams that have no hits in the case/box and randoming off the 10 teams that were left out among the participants? (20 is a random suggestion and would be adjusted accordingly.) Keep in mind that this option would be around $50+ per person.
Allen & Ginter is NOT an option here. I hate Ginter and would sooner put a fork in my eye than open a case of it.
