Congratulations to our first place finisher, The Dude who won the league this season. The Dude a.k.a. psad21 had to work for this one by making 119 total moves throughout the season to get his team to the top. He worked and paid attention all season, as did our second place finisher Dan from Grand Cards. Dan finished the season only making 21 moves and drafting a very solid team that carried him all 162 games. I wish I had done the same. ( I'm not saying they were the only ones paying attention, I just wasn't that good at it this season.) The league was back and forth all season and there were many roster moves and lead changes this season. Overall, I think everyone had a good time with it.

As usual for me I ended up drafting half a good team, forgot to set my line-up half the time, and donated $20. I'm used to it, but I have fun during the season. OK, see you all next year.

Ohhh... right prize money.... I guess you guys want your boxes of cards. LOL, I kid! I believe the last vote taken was for $175 for First Place and $65 for second. Let me know what boxes you guys want in an e-mail and we can take care of getting those sent to you this week. Just remember me when you are looking at those cool Pujols or Cano inserts.... =)

Next season I plan on running the league again, however there will only be weekly rosters to set and a limited number of add/drops per week. I feel like that will level the playing field for the people who couldn't keep up, or were not able to set a daily line-up.

The countdown to spring training will begin after the last World Series game =)

We're coming close to the end of the baseball season and the blog fantasy baseball is winding down. I'm completely out of the running, but there is a nice race at the top of the league, which looks like it could go to the wire.

Coming down the stretch

I know we haven't updated our blog fantasy league in some time so I will start the blog off with the current standings up to today.

My team (The Franchise) was doing very well for a short period of time and was in the top 5, and now since my pitching isn't that great (and I forgot to set my line-up a few times) I think I'm pretty much done.

So what does everyone think of the division races right now? The two hottest teams in baseball have definitely been the Phillies and Yankees (if you can't forget the weekend series the Yankees just played). Lee is going to be a great addition to the Phillies rotation, and from what my inside source (Sooz) tells me, they didn't give up all that much to land Lee.

Any predictions of the playoffs from anyone? I think the A.L. East is going to be a tight race this year, and after last year I won't be complaining. I see the Phillies and Dodgers in the N.L. so far, and the A.L. I don't have any solid prediction though I will go with the Yankees taking first and Boston getting the wild card. I know many people dislike Torre now, but I really want to see them to well again and they seem to be a lock for making hte playoffs. Yankees/Dodgers World Series would be awesome and very old school.

My new favorite Yankee and I'm changing my team name

Last night, the Yankees -- and their fans -- had a night to forget. They didn't pitch well, hit when it was far too late, and one of their most expensive acquisitions hasn't played in three games.

It wasn't fun, except if you were Nick Swisher (or Dave). The Yankees first baseman (and outfielder at times) pitched an inning of relief, doing better than starter Chien Ming Wang. In fact, he even struck out good ol' Gabe Kapler.

Good. Ol'. Gabe.

Swisher pitches scoreless inning as Yanks fall, 15-5

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Rays pounded the Yankees so handily last night that all you have to know is this: Outfielder/first baseman Nick Swisher pitched the bottom of the eighth for the Yankees.

And Swisher was the best pitcher the Yankees put on the mound in a 15-5 loss to the Rays, as he threw a scoreless inning.

OK, maybe Swisher - who last pitched as a freshman in high school and said he believes he gave up a couple of home runs that day - was not the best, but he was the only one of five Yankees not to allow a run. He even struck out Gabe Kapler.

"I wanted to try to compete, even though I am out there pumping 78 [mph] or whatever," he said. "You've got to find something to laugh about in that moment. If I'm the guy everybody's laughing at, I'm OK with that."

He didn't give up one run in a 15-run game (that was the last I looked at the score anyway).



Is it too late to change my fantasy baseball team name? Gabe's Babe doesn't really seem to be cutting it anymore -- in a number of ways. Despite that my team is in eighth place in the blogger league, it's a bad omen when the guy you name your team after strikes out against a guy throwing batting-practice fastballs.

If he can't hit 80 mile-per-hour heat, how is he supposed to inspire the rest of the team through the season.

I really like this team, and supposedly this is one of those "competitive" leagues so we'll see what happens. I also got roped into a league with some people from work. One of the guys was doing a free league with some friends and they needed a few more people so me and the only other girl that are there joined. I feel like that one will provide some good entertainment as well.

I have issues thinking I will be checking this team, though I can probably change my line-up once a month and be fine.

2009 Fantasy Baseball Draft

For those of you who like to gamble, pick a team based on the name and place your bet. I will post the draft results if I don't become lazy (good chance this will never happen, but I am hopeful).

I used to play alot of pool, and we used to stake a person for a certain amount of money and that side pool went to the person who picked the winning player (or team in this case). If you guys want to do something like that as a side bet amongst the non-participants and do a side prize that might be fun. I don't know if I could keep track of that, but maybe someone else in the league might want to run that one. Could maybe do $5 bucks per team, then whoever picks the winning team gets a box/blaster from that side pool depending on the bet from each person.

I hope that made sense, I know what I am talking about but I feel like it may have translated poorly. But notice, I didn't say who was representing each team in fairness.

2009 Fantasy Baseball Now Open

The fantasy baseball invitations went out a short while ago to those who paid to join. Settings for the league were updates, as were points. Please check it out and if you have any concerns, please e-mail me.

I am also waiting on 3 more to pay/join. If we do not get 3 more teams I am going to cap it at 10 and move on. I'm sure I can get at least one more person to join. So for those of you on the fence, speak up and let me know.

The draft date was just set because they would not let me continue without one, so I just picked anything for now. That can, and probably will be changed.

The league will be rotisserie style with the following roster slots:

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 0F, 0F, 0F, CI, MI, DH
5 SP/P, 2 RP
5 Open spots
2 DL

Points will be in the following format: (to be determined at this point) Sooz has a good system but has been busy with work the last couple of days so she will show us the point system in the very near future, and we can discuss what everyone agrees with and doesn't.


Payment for the league is due by February 28th, and will be $20. We are going to pay 2 places, 1st and 2nd will win a box. $240 total, I am thinking $175/$65 split. We will purchase the boxes from DAC or Blowout, and shipping should be free over $150.

Payments will go to the e-mail address cardbandits AT gmail DOT com, please include in the note what the payment is for so that we both have a receipt of payment.

EDIT: By paying through PayPal we ask that you pay from a checking account so that we don't pay any fees on it, otherwise you can mail a money order or check.

2009 Fantasy Baseball Teams

As of right now from the first post, these were the first 12 interested people and first chance to join goes to them. Please confirm if you are in or out, and I will get e-mails out to tell you how to pay, then the next step will be setting up a draft date so that everyone can be home or at least prepare their draft order if they can not be there live.
